What is The Function of the Lactase Enzyme?

Lactase enzyme, also known as β -galactosiase (CAS No. 9031-11-2, EC 3.2.1.23), is derived from Aspergillus oryzae and is a food enzyme preparation refined and extracted through deep liquid fermentation.

This product can be used as a digestive aid in dietary supplements or modified milk powder, most people may not pay much attention to this ingredient in their daily lives, But some people with lactose intolerance must be very familiar with this raw material. Today, let's have a deeper look of lactase.

Lactase Basic information.

Principle of action

Hydrolyze the β -galactosidic bonds in lactose molecules to generate glucose and galactose.

What is the function of the lactase enzyme powder?

(1)Powder Lactase enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of lactose, converting it into easily absorbable monosaccharides, preventing undecomposed lactose from fermenting and producing gas in the intestines, and alleviating discomfort such as abdominal distension, intestinal rumbling and diarrhea.

(2)Powder lactase can relieve lactose intolerance symptoms

People with lactose intolerance are prone to indigestion after consuming milk and other dairy products due to insufficient secretion of lactase in their bodies. Supplementing lactase can effectively alleviate such symptoms and enhance the tolerance to dairy products.

(3)Powder Lactase can promote nutrient absorption

The decomposed glucose and galactose can be directly absorbed by the intestines, helping to obtain nutrients such as calcium and protein in dairy products and reducing the risk of nutrient loss caused by lactose intolerance.

Application method

Lactase enzyme derived from Aspergillus oryzae has extremely high activity under low pH conditions (pH3.0-5.5), making it highly suitable for digesting lactose in acidic environments. As a result, it is used as a digestive aid in dietary supplements.

The dosage of lactase taken orally each time depends on the lactose content in each meal's diet. Generally speaking, consuming 10 to 13 grams of lactose requires supplementing 2,500ALU of lactase. We recommend supplementing 4,000 to 6,000ALU of lactase each time in a lactose-containing diet.

Mainly applications

info-675-452

Lactase is mainly used in the dairy industry in industry. It utilizes its hydrolytic action to break down lactose in dairy products, producing low-lactose or lactose-free dairy products for consumption by the general public who are lactose intolerant. In addition, acidic lactase can be made into medical lactase preparations or added to milk powder to produce special-purpose milk powder. Clinically, it is used for the treatment of symptomatic lactose intolerance, especially for infants and young children whose main source of nutrition is dairy products. Lactase preparations are the most ideal choice for lactose intolerance in infants and young children.

The galactoside transfer effect of lactase

Galactose is converted into galactooligosaccharides under the transglycoside action of lactase. This technology can be used to produce galactooligosaccharides, and currently galactooligosaccharides have been put on the market. Galactooligosaccharides cannot be absorbed by the human body, but they can be utilized by probiotics such as bifidobacteria in the intestinal tract, promoting the proliferation of probiotics. They are excellent prebiotics and are also known as bifidus factors. Galactooligosaccharides are the only prebiotic from breast milk.
